What documents are required for a residence permit?
Depending on the purpose stated for obtaining a residence permit, you are required to submit the following documents:
- "business" - a valid international passport, a criminal record statement with an apostille, funds to be deposited into the accounts of a company / individual entrepreneur and your personal account;
- "family reunion" - a valid international passport, a criminal record statement with an apostille (for persons aged 14 and over), a marriage certificate (husband/wife), a birth certificate (for children under 18 years), funds to be deposited in the sponsor's account;
- "employment" - a valid international passport, a criminal record statement with an apostille, information about the employer, a diploma;
- "study" - a valid international passport, a criminal record statement with an apostille, confirmation from the university of admission for the full-time study.
We will prepare all other documents ourselves.
Is it obligatory to come in person to submit documents?
Personal presence is required by law.
How to obtain residence permits for the whole family?
It is necessary to determine who will be a sponsor, a mother or a father, and choose a suitable purpose for this person (see question № 3). Other family members will apply for a family reunion.
Can I be refused to obtain a residence permit?
Yes, but this has not happened to our clients yet.
How to find out real estate prices in Slovakia?
You can have a look at different web portals where real estate is sold. A real estate agent can also give information about a price range.
Why do you need a residence permit in Slovakia?
A residence permit in Slovakia will allow you to:
- live and work in Slovakia on a permanent basis,
- cross the borders of 28 EU member states without a visa,
- open and run business in Slovakia and EU countries,
- get a mortgage loan at an annual interest rate of 2-3%,
- and many other benefits, as well as starting a new life in Europe!
Where to go to process the documents?
When processing the documents, we accompany you to the Foreign Police Department to submit the application in person.
You can also submit the application in person at the Foreign Police Department at your place of residence if:
- you are in Slovakia on the basis of a valid temporary residence permit;
- you are in Slovakia on the basis of a valid national visa;
- you do not need a visa to stay in Slovakia;
- you are the holder of a Certificate of a Slovak living abroad;
- you have been granted tolerated residence (acc. to Paragraph 58 section 1, points a-c or section 2)
If you are not in Slovakia, the application is submitted to the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in your country. At the embassy, you have a personal interview for the purpose of a preliminary assessment of the application.
How to duly translate documents into the Slovak language?
It all depends on the type of documents and the agreement concluded by your country. Certification of translation is not required for countries that are state parties to the Hague Convention. This means that in order to use abroad documents issued in such a country, you only need to apostille them.
Apostilled documents must not only be translated into Slovak but the translation must be made by a sworn translator and bound to a notarized copy of the document. Such translators are located in Slovakia.

Is health insurance necessary for foreign citizens?
State health insurance is compulsory for all persons with a residence permit in Slovakia. A foreign citizen who has received permanent residence in Slovakia must obtain state health insurance within 8 days.
State health insurance is also compulsory for persons who do not have permanent residence in Slovakia but meet one of the following conditions:
- officially employed;
- carries out the entrepreneurial activity as an individual entrepreneur;
- a student studying in Slovakia on the basis of an international agreement;
- a pupil or student with the status of a Slovak living abroad and at the same time studying at school in Slovakia;
- asylum was granted;
- is a dependent family member;
- performs paid sports activities for a sports organization on the basis of a professional sports contract;
Who can get a mortgage loan in Slovakia?
A mortgage loan can be obtained by foreign citizens if they have a residence permit card in Slovakia.
