EXCHANGE OF A DRIVING LICENSE FOR A SLOVAK ONE

Foreigners who have obtained a residence permit in Slovakia very often exchange their driving license for a Slovak one. We recommend doing this within the first year after obtaining a residence permit because otherwise, you will have to retake the exams in Slovakia.

According to Article 104, paragraph 4 of Act No. 8/2009 on road traffic, the holder of a driving license issued in a member state of the Geneva or Vienna Conventions, but not in a country of the European Economic Area, and who has a residence permit or permanent residence in Slovakia is obliged to apply for the exchange of a driving license within 60 days after 185 days from obtaining a residence permit or permanent residence. After this period, the driving license which was not exchanged may be declared invalid if used. Upon receipt of a Slovak driving license, your driving license is seized and sent to the country of issue.

To do this, you need to submit a number of original documents and certificates, officially translated into the Slovak language. All this often causes difficulties. Therefore, we offer services including the preparation and translation of documents and accompanying to the police. We can also give recommendations concerning the accelerated procedure.
